Marco Rubio Joins Mitt Romney for a Town Hall Event in Pennsylvania

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined Mitt Romney on Monday April 23, for a town hall event in Aston Pennsylvania.  On the eve of the state’s primary, Rubio seems rather an odd choice considering that Pennsylvania is the home state of the estimable Senator Pat Toomey.  Could this be a subtle signal that Romney will indeed be selecting Rubio as his running-mate?  Fingers crossed.

Marco Rubio first came to my attention when he was the subject of a National Review article  “Yes, He Can” which was published in August of 2009. I was immediately drawn to his compelling life story and his long list of accomplishments that reflected a strict adherence to the traditional republican platform; limited government, low tax rates, and fiscal responsibility.

Two and half years later, Rubio, now a freshman senator has become the darling of the republican party. His Reaganesque ability to effectively communicate the principals of conservationism is serving Romney well. The democrats are terrified of him, and have already begun drilling for dirt (the only kind of drilling that they support) on him.

It’s easy enough to tell who the democrats fear, as they immediately attack anyone whom they feel poses a threat to their continue reign of tyranny. In that vein, we’ve seen them morph into Rubio-birthers, claiming that although he was born in the United States, neither of his parents were citizens at the time of his birth. Funny, weren’t these the very same people telling us that demanding to see a birth certificate is racist? Attempts have also been made to discredit his back story but Rubio remains undeterred.

After having the opportunity to see him speak at the town hall event, I have little doubt that one day in the not too distant future, Marco Rubio will be our President. Mitt Romney should select Rubio to be his running mate. Rubio’s energy and enthusiasm for conservatism is infectious. His ability to communicate conservative principles has the potential to convince a huge swath of independent voters that by supporting Romney in the fall, they will be protecting individual liberty and continued American exceptionalism.

If you still have doubts, please take the time to watch the video of the event.

Introducing Romney:
Tomorrow, tomorrow you get to practice doing that when you turn out and vote. You know all the noise that surrounds these elections let’s never forget what these elections are. Elections are choices. Now four years ago this nation made a choice one that I disagreed with, and I think that from what I hear today, one that most of you disagreed with. But we made a choice and the choice was to give Barack Obama a chance to lead this nation. And from the day he took over in January of 2009 till today he has a records as president and that record has numbers behind it. Like unemployment which under his watch has gone up. Like the debt, which under his watch has gone up. Like that value of our homes which under his watch have gone down. He’s no longer a theory, Barack Obama is a reality. For millions of Americans today life is worse than it was three years ago. Because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Now of course he’ll make all kinds of excuses about it, it’s somebody else’s fault. It always is, but the truth is his party controlled the House and the Senate for two years. His first two years as President, they would have given him anything he wanted and they did. They gave him a stimulus that failed. They gave him a health care that’s failing. They gave him regulations that are failing our country. And so we get to choose again. And what we should chose are the things that make America great. This place man, this place where we are today is a testament to America’s greatness. I used to give speeches during my campaign where I would say that one of the great things about America is it’s one of the few places in the world where you can start a business out of your parent’s garage. Yes, in violation of the zoning code, but you can do it! And one day employ a bunch of people and build a big building. That’s what she’s done. And the job of government is to make is easier on people to do that, not harder. And there’s only one person running for president that understands that. There’s only one person that’s running for president that’s ever helped do that. There is only one choice that’s running for president that will help us reclaim and recapture the things that make this nation of ours different from all the other countries on the earth and he happens to be here today, his name is Mitt Romney, the next president of the United States!

Voter I.D. :
About a week ago I went and bought and exercise bike because my wife said I was looking too senatorial if you know what I mean. You know what the cashier asked me for, when I went to pay? My I.D. This morning I got on an airplane, you know what they asked me for? My I.D. So what’s the big deal? What’s the big deal?

Energy Independence:
Do you realize that this is the most energy rich country in the world? Do you realize that the American innovator has invented ways to access natural gas and oil that we’ve never had a chance to get to? At a time when the world needs more energy, we found more of it. And let me give you a graphic example of the direction of this administration. Canada has decided to build a pipeline. It can go in two directions, it can go towards China or it can come towards us. Guess, which direction do you think the president chose? (Audience “China!”) Which direction do you think Mitt Romney will choose? America.

The American Dream:
Your question strikes a chord with me. First of all let me tell you how honored I am to be here today. About half a century ago, my parents came to the United States. They could speak English, barely. They didn’t really have much of an education, they both grew up pretty poor. They didn’t know anybody here. It’s hard for me to imagine what life was like then, because even though my parents weren’t rich at all, I was privileged because I lived in a strong and stable family and I had all kinds of opportunities they didn’t. And if my dad was still alive and my mom who is hopefully watching if one of these guys will cut-in live. It would have been unimaginable that I would be standing here with you today. Now why is that? Why am I here today with you why do I get to serve in the United States Senate, why have I been privileged to have opportunities they didn’t? Well it isn’t because I worked harder than they did. It isn’t because I’m smarter than they were. It’s because I had something that they didn’t the privilege and the honor of being born in the single greatest society in all of human history. In a place where anyone from anywhere can accomplish anything. You know why we’re different? Because I don’t remember growing up my parents saying to me, “You know why weren’t not better off? Cause those guys are doing too well.” I don’t ever remember my parents saying to me, “You know what, if only we took something away from them and gave it to us, things would be better.” I don’t ever remember my parents teaching me that. In fact when my parents would do, they would point to people that had made it and they would say, “That’s a source of inspiration, if they made it, you can make it as well.” We now have a leader in this country who wants to take that from us. Who is telling Americans that the reasons why they’re hurting is because other people are doing too well. That the way that they can climb up the ladder is to pull other people down. If we do that, we become like every other country in the world, we cannot do that. Because if we are that, if we become that, then the American inspiration will be gone and there will be nothing that the rest of the world can look to hopefully, in the hopes that they too can one day have what we have. So your question goes to the heart of what this election is about we need, this is who we’ve been and this is who we are, and this is who we must remain. But we will not if Barack Obama is president another four years.

Free People or Free Stuff?

Free People or Free Stuff? That’s what it’s all about. From the Tea Party protests, to the Occupy Wall Street camps, to the latest go-round featuring Ms. Fluke vs Rush Limbaugh, the real issue, the one that no one seems to define correctly is this; do we want to be a free people or a people who demand free stuff?

The driving force behind the Tea Party movement has been the protection of the individual against the tyrannical overreach of big government. Theirs is the full-throated cry of a free people who do not wish to be slaves, and to that end they steadfastly refuse to sacrifice their labor and lives to those who demand something for free.

The Tea Party people have chosen instead to cast off the chains, and turn on their would-be masters, and look at the result. The masters loosed their dogs on them. The media happily served in the vanguard. They ferociously attacked the Tea Party on a daily basis. They fabricated stories about the Tea Party in an attempt to discredit them so that people would disregard their message. The 2010 mid-term election results proved that their efforts failed, people were still willing to listen. Then we saw a new movement rise, the people who demand free stuff. They call themselves Occupy Wall Street.

The Occupy Wall Street people say that they represent the 99% and have continually asserted that we all have a right to certain objects of value; houses, college educations, jobs, etc. But claiming to have a right which forces another to give you something, while they receive nothing in return, demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what a constitutes a right. Rights, as understood by our framers and enshrined by them in our founding documents, are a natural consequence of our existence. We are born with them. None of us enters this world with a cell phone, a month’s supply of birth control pills, or free college tuition clutched within our tiny fists. If this should ever happen we can most certainly revisit the topic.

Free people and people who demand free stuff, cannot peacefully coexist within the same society. For when people demand they be given something for free, what they are doing, whether it be knowingly or unwittingly, is echoing the call made by every despotic and tyrannical government, for the enslavement of some for the benefit of others.

The time for choosing is upon us, what’s it going to be, free people or free stuff?
